bmi chart

Bmi chart is not the most accurate way to find your ideal weight

BMI (Body Mass Index) Calculator kg – Charts and Formula.

You can use the BMI Calculator in KG OR LB. But did you know most experts agree it is an outdated formula ?

First invented by Adolphe Quetelet in the 1830s, it is a rather dated formula nearly 2 centuries old best used for averages in large populations.

The biggest problems with BMI are the following..

  • It takes no account of your build, people have different body shapes and shoulder width.
  • It can change wildly depending if your a man or woman.
  • A man and a woman can have the same amount of fat and have different BMIs.
  • You will be happy to know that even if you have a high BMI you might not be overweight. Muscle is denser and heavier then fat so if
you have strong legs or alot of muscle in other areas this can give you a misleading BMI.
  • BMI does not consider waist size which is a good indicator of type 2 diabetes cardiac problems.
According to the National Health Service in England “A survey of global trends found obesity was now second only to smoking as a cause of premature death in Europe”

Instead of searching around the internet for each Calculator make one entry for each of the following suitable for men and woman.

Robinson formula:
Miller formula:
Hamwi formula:
Devine formula:

Ideal Weight Calculator

Robinson formula: 52 kg + 1.9 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Miller formula: 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Hamwi formula: 48.0 kg + 2.7 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Devine formula: 50.0 kg + 2.3 kg per every inch over 5 feet

For women, the ideal weight calculator uses the following equations:

Robinson formula: 49 kg + 1.7 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Miller formula: 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Hamwi formula: 45.5 kg + 2.2 kg per every inch over 5 feet
Devine formula: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per every inch over 5 feet
